Guest Room Makeover
Slowly but surely I have been working away making every corner of this house feel like our home and my most recent project was one of our guest rooms.
This is how the room started off, nothing terrible but also nothing to special. We actually hunkered down in this room for 3 months while our primary bedroom reno was under construction and in that time I grew to HATE these yellow walls lol. So I knew for sure the yellow would be the first thing to go.
After sitting with the space for a few months a vision for what I wanted to created in here really came to life. Keeping with the cozy coastal cottage vibe I am working to bring to the whole house I wanted this to feel like a room you could curl up in it with a book and just get lost in the words on the page. I want anyone who stays in this space to feel at home and at peace.
Ya’ll know me and of course I used Chantilly Lace from Benjamin Moore to really brighten up this space and get rid of that old dingy yellow that was haunting me from our months camped out in there during our primary reno lol (it’s my go to white and ends up in every space I work in). Then I used Cool Current from sico paints in a high gloss on all the baseboards and trim to bring back some warmth and character to the space.
When I t came to styling this space I knew it would be important to bring in some really unique antique pieces as well as some sentimental ones to make it feel lived in and comfortable.
The bed frame was an EPIC Habitat For Humanity Restore find that I snagged for $35. It was only the headboard and foot board so Nate helped me build out a bed frame to attach them too and I honestly couldn’t be more in love with how it looks in the space.
I also snagged that amazing nightstand / lamp combo from restore as well. It had a very dark glossy stain on it so I sanded it down to the natural wood and re stained it and it turned out to be the perfect complementary piece for the bed.
The dresser was my sentimental addition to the room. It was my childhood dresser and holds so many special memories for me. I love that its getting a second life in this special space in out home. I left it as is but did have to peel off some stickers from my childhood that i had down the side of it lol.
Once the furniture was in place the styling came together so naturally with some beautiful antique nautical pieces I had on hand that just felt so right in this room.
I was so inspired by this magical old home of ours at every step of the project and felt like she guided me to this final vision of the space.
